Chaparral is Calgary's deep-south lake community — built around a lake its residents get all to themselves.

The lake. Established in 1995, Chaparral wraps around a 32-acre artificial lake with a sandy beach — kayaks and paddleboards in summer, skating when it freezes in winter.

The park. Beside the lake sits a 21-acre park with two waterfalls, lawns and pathways — the community's backyard.

Fish Creek at the edge. Fish Creek Provincial Park's trails begin where the community ends, and Blue Devil Golf Club winds through the river valley below.
